The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is probing author Webster Ochora Elijah for alleged identity theft linked to his recently published book titled Beyond the Name: Charlene Ruto and the Youth Uprising.
Ochora was arrested and is currently being held at Muthaiga Police Station as forensic experts examine his laptop for possible evidence. Authorities allege that the book unlawfully uses the name of Charlene Ruto—President William Ruto’s daughter—without her consent, potentially breaching the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act.
DCI sources say the investigation revolves around the book’s use of Charlene’s identity in a manner that may have violated legal provisions on digital impersonation and unauthorized use of personal identifiers.
Ochora is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
However, his legal team has dismissed the allegations, defending the publication as a legitimate exercise of creative freedom. They argue that the book is neither malicious nor criminal in intent, stating that Ochora’s work falls under constitutionally protected creative expression.
