The Tanzanian man who captured the attention of thousands across East Africa for mimicking animal sounds—allegedly after being bewitched for stealing goats—has now confessed the whole drama was a well-orchestrated hoax.

Speaking in an interview with Oga Obinna on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the man revealed he lied to police and faked the bizarre sounds as a desperate move to gain sympathy and secure fare to Nairobi.

“I staged everything. I wasn’t bewitched. I just needed help and thought this was the only way people would feel sorry for me,” he admitted.

The man went viral on social media last week after clips circulated showing him barking, meowing, and making goat sounds, claiming a witch doctor had cursed him for stealing livestock.

The video caused a stir on TikTok, X, and Facebook, with many believing he had genuinely been bewitched.

The man told Oga Obinna he had fabricated the entire story even to local authorities, claiming supernatural punishment in order to evade harsh legal consequences and garner public pity.
