The Senate has dismissed the impeachment motion against Kericho Governor Eric Mutai, saving him from removal from office.
In its ruling, the Senate noted that the impeachment motion did not meet the constitutional threshold. It was not proven beyond reasonable doubt that 33 Members of the Kericho County Assembly (MCAs) had voted in support of Mutai’s ouster.
During the Senate session, 26 Senators out of 43 voted to save the Governor, effectively overturning the attempt to impeach him.
The decision now allows Governor Mutai to continue serving his term, though political analysts note that the failed impeachment exposes ongoing divisions within the Kericho County Assembly.
This development marks a significant victory for the embattled county boss, who had faced mounting pressure from rival political factions.
