Kibra Member of Parliament Peter Orero is facing public backlash after a heated altercation with CNN Africa correspondent Larry Madowo went viral on social media. The confrontation occurred after Orero’s official vehicle was filmed driving on the wrong side of the road in Nairobi.
Viral Video Sparks Public Outrage
In the now-viral video, Orero is seen seated in the front passenger seat as Madowo records the incident. The visibly agitated MP is heard shouting, “Peleka kwa Ruto!” — Swahili for “Take it to Ruto!” His driver adds, “Peleka kwa Ruto… takataka!” (“Take it to Ruto… rubbish!”), prompting Madowo to fire back, “Huyo ndio unaogopa?” (“Is that who you fear?”).
The exchange quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing widespread condemnation from Kenyans angered by the blatant disregard for traffic laws by elected leaders.
Kenyans Condemn VIP Impunity on the Roads
Thousands of online users identified the MP and blasted him for embodying the culture of impunity among politicians and government officials who routinely flout traffic regulations.
Growing Concern Over Reckless VIP Driving
This incident adds to the rising public anger over reckless driving by VIP convoys. Earlier this year, two pedestrians were killed in separate accidents involving a presidential escort vehicle and a Meru politician’s car.
Many Kenyans are now calling on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the National Police Service to take action against VIP drivers who endanger public safety, demanding equal enforcement of the law.
