Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has pledged to intervene and help comedian Sammy Kioko recover KSh19 million owed to him by the Machakos County Government.
Sonko made the promise during a live phone call on Oga Obinna’s show, where Kioko had made an emotional appeal over the delayed payment. The comedian broke down as he detailed the financial hardships he has faced since the county failed to pay him for services rendered under a county contract.
During the call, Sonko assured Kioko that he would personally reach out to Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti to discuss a solution.
“Mtume kwangu kwa sababu governor tunapeana heshima. Akuje kesho twende kwa governor tukae chini tuone vile anaeza saidika. Maybe county iko broke, you never know — tuone hata kama watamlipa polepole,” said Sonko.
Kioko, who has been open about his financial struggles, revealed that the unpaid funds have taken a serious toll on his livelihood and family. He said the delay has stalled several business projects and made it difficult for him to cater for his ailing sister’s medical needs.
The comedian’s emotional revelation sparked an outpouring of support from fans and fellow creatives, many of whom urged county governments to honour their contracts with artists and service providers.
Sonko’s intervention has been widely praised on social media, with users calling it a commendable show of leadership and compassion.
