Nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi has passed away, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at around 7:00 am.
“It is with profound sorrow that I notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP,” Wetang’ula said.
Hamisi was nominated to the National Assembly following the 2022 General Elections under the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party. Until his passing, he served with diligence on the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture as well as the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.
Born in 1969 in Kinango, Hamisi attended Mombasa Baptist High School before pursuing higher education at the United States International University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management and a Master’s in International Business Administration. He later obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi.
Before joining Parliament, Hamisi held several senior roles in the public sector, including Director at the Coast Development Authority, Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya, Director at the Kenya Airports Authority, and Director at the Kenya National Accreditation Services.
He also served on the councils of both the University of Nairobi and Moi University.
Throughout his career, he was remembered for his humility, commitment to duty, and service to the nation.
Speaker Wetang’ula conveyed condolences on behalf of Members of Parliament and National Assembly staff, noting that arrangements for a befitting send-off are underway.
“I have appointed Members to liaise with the family and coordinate a befitting send-off for the Late Denar. The team will be led by the Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Owen Baya Yaa,” he said, adding that further details will be shared in due course.
Hamisi’s passing marks the loss of a dedicated public servant whose career spanned law, governance, and parliamentary service, leaving a lasting legacy in Kenya’s public sector.
