Moscow, Russia – Saturday, January 4, 2026 – Italian influencer Yulia Burtseva has died after undergoing cosmetic surgery at a private clinic in Moscow, Russian authorities have confirmed. She was 38 years old.
Burtseva, who had more than 73,000 followers on Instagram, died shortly after doctors rushed her to hospital when her condition suddenly worsened following the procedure.
According to MSK1, a Moscow-based news outlet, Burtseva underwent cosmetic surgery on January 4. However, medical staff transferred her to hospital soon after complications emerged. Doctors later pronounced her dead.
Criminal Investigation Launched
Russian investigators have since opened a criminal case to determine whether negligence played a role in Burtseva’s death.
In a statement cited by MSK1, the Moscow Investigative Committee said investigators had begun work at the clinic.
“Investigators from the Moscow Investigative Committee are working at the scene. Necessary official and medical records will be seized shortly,” the statement read.
“Several forensic examinations, including a medical examination, are being ordered.”
Influencer Lived in Italy with Family
Burtseva lived in Naples, Italy, with her husband Giuseppe and their young daughter, according to her Instagram bio. She frequently shared moments from her family life online, building a loyal following through lifestyle and personal content.
Her final Instagram post dates back to December 5, when she shared a video with her daughter.
Earlier on the day of her surgery, Burtseva also posted a video on VK, a Russian social media platform. The clip showed her at Café Pushkin in Moscow, captioned with the translated message: “Good morning Moscow.”

Following news of her death, Burtseva’s followers flooded her Instagram comments with messages of grief and condolence.
“Condolences to the loved ones,” one follower wrote.
Another commented: “Charming girl. How could this happen? May she rest in peace.”

Burtseva’s death has renewed concerns about the safety of cosmetic procedures and medical oversight, particularly involving private clinics and cross-border patients.
