Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has raised concern over an image circulating on social media, saying it falsely represents her and was generated using artificial intelligence (AI).

The image, which has been widely shared online, shows Passaris posing closely with Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, with her hand placed near his waist while Salasya appears to hold her belly and back. Passaris clarified that while she had previously shared an original photograph, the version currently circulating has been digitally altered.

Speaking on the sidelines of Data Protection Day, a global event focused on privacy and digital safety, Passaris warned about the growing difficulty of distinguishing real images from manipulated content.

“Today is Data Protection Day. This image shows how easily reality can be manipulated. One version is AI-generated with @pksalasya. One is real. In today’s digital age, it’s becoming harder to tell the difference, which is why privacy, ethical data use, and responsible sharing matter more than ever,” she said.

She urged the public to be cautious when sharing online content, noting that AI-generated images pose serious risks to privacy and reputations.
