Embattled Kenyan car dealer Khalif Kairo is in mourning following the death of his mother.
In a statement shared on X on Sunday, February 13, Kairo announced that his mother passed away earlier that morning after a long battle with an undisclosed illness.
“We lost our mum earlier today after a long and bravely fought battle with illness. Our hearts are heavy, but we are grateful to God for the time, love, memories, and lessons she gave us. She fought with strength and grace, and we thank God for every moment we shared with her,” he wrote.
He described her as a resilient woman who fought courageously until her final moments, expressing gratitude for the time they shared as a family.
Khalif Kairo’s Legal Troubles in 2025
Kairo’s personal loss comes months after he faced serious legal challenges in 2025 over alleged fraud claims.
His troubles began early that year when he was arrested following complaints from clients who claimed they had paid for vehicles that were never delivered. Prosecutors alleged that he persuaded customers to transfer large sums of money for car purchases that were not completed.
In one instance, he was accused of receiving KSh 2,984,998 for a Subaru Outback, and in another case, KSh 2,145,150 for a Honda Vezel, with both vehicles allegedly undelivered.
His attempts to secure bail were unsuccessful after the prosecution argued that he was a flight risk. Despite the charges, Kairo consistently denied any wrongdoing throughout the court proceedings.
He remained in detention for months until September 2025, when he was acquitted after complainants withdrew their cases. The withdrawals reportedly followed refunds made to the clients.
Kairo operated through his car dealership, Kai and Karo Ltd, which dealt in new and second-hand vehicles, motorcycles, and car spare parts.
A Difficult Season
The death of his mother marks another challenging chapter for Kairo, who has been navigating both public scrutiny and personal struggles over the past year.
