Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale left mourners amused after turning part of his speech at the funeral of his late third wife, Gloria Sekeiyan, into an unusual appeal to single men in Shinyalu.
Speaking during Gloria’s funeral service at Malinya Stadium in Kakamega County on Friday, August 21, Khalwale joked that men in the area appeared afraid of marrying his daughters.
The senator, who is a father of 17, said he often encouraged men in Shinyalu to consider his daughters but claimed they kept their distance.
“Whenever I go to Shinyalu, I tell men there I have many daughters; they should come and marry them, but they are afraid of my daughters. You men!” Khalwale said.
Khalwale Praises Daughter Flavia
Khalwale then singled out his daughter Flavia, highlighting her academic and professional achievements as he challenged men to consider her for marriage.
He said Flavia was a top student at Malinya Primary School before excelling at Alliance Girls High School.
She later joined the University of Nairobi, where she studied economics, and now works at East African Breweries Limited (EABL), according to her father.
“Flavia was a top student at Malinya Primary School, topped at Alliance Girls High School, and went to The University of Nairobi (UoN) to study economics and now works at EABL. She is a working-class woman. Why can’t you marry her?” Khalwale said.
His remarks drew laughter and attention from those attending the funeral, with the senator appearing to jokingly market his daughter’s qualifications to prospective suitors.
The light-hearted moment came during a funeral service that was otherwise dedicated to remembering Gloria Sekeiyan, Khalwale’s third wife, whose life and legacy the senator had earlier honoured in an emotional tribute.
