Content creator Christine Irungu popularly knowan as  Krisbabyy has opened up about the financial realities of motherhood after welcoming her son, Junior.

Sharing a detailed breakdown of her hospital statement, she revealed that her total delivery bill amounted to KES 251,787.99.

Breakdown of the Hospital Costs

According to the statement she shared:

  • Four-day admission fee: KES 111,800
  • NICU bed occupancy for Junior: KES 20,950
  • Pharmacy fees (NICU): KES 1,677

The figures sparked widespread conversation online about the rising cost of maternal healthcare in Kenya.

“If you’re planning to have a child, you’d better start saving!” she advised.

Insurance Coverage and Out-of-Pocket Costs

Despite having private insurance that covered KES 77,000 and an NHIF contribution of KES 30,000, Krisbabyy still had to pay a significant out-of-pocket top-up of approximately KES 140,000.

She concluded by urging women to invest in comprehensive maternity insurance to avoid unexpected financial strain during childbirth.

Her revelation has since resonated with many young families, highlighting the importance of financial preparedness and adequate health insurance coverage when planning for a child.
