Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has weighed in on the ongoing online debate surrounding viral videos of a man identifying himself as “Yaytseslav,” who claims to be Russian and has been documenting encounters with women in Nairobi and Accra.
Speaking on the controversy, Salasya suggested that many Kenyan men have remained silent because, in his view, the women involved did not subject the foreign man to the same expectations they often place on local men.
In a widely shared statement, Salasya argued that Kenyan men are often required to meet various financial and social conditions before progressing in relationships, including paying for dates and providing financial assistance. He contrasted this with what he described as “instant cooperation” shown in the viral clips.
Who Is the Man Behind the Viral Videos?
The man, who identifies himself online as “Yaytseslav” and claims to be Russian, has gone viral after posting dozens of videos recorded in Nairobi, Kenya, and Accra, Ghana.
The clips, widely circulated on TikTok, X, and Telegram, show the Caucasian man approaching women in public spaces such as malls, supermarkets, and walkways. In the footage, he is seen initiating conversations, complimenting the women, and asking them out.
According to the videos, he typically proposes meeting later the same day or the following day. In several clips, the women later appear in what is described as his hotel room or Airbnb apartment. Notably, the man does not reveal his face in any of the recordings.
Online Debate Intensifies
The viral content has sparked heated reactions across social media, with discussions centering on dating culture, gender dynamics, privacy concerns, and consent. Salasya’s remarks have further fueled the debate, drawing mixed reactions from Kenyans online.
As the videos continue to circulate, questions remain about digital ethics, privacy rights, and the broader implications of recording and sharing such encounters publicly.
