The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has dismissed reports in a section of the media alleging that India’s Adani Group is involved in the modernisation and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
In a statement issued Tuesday, KAA clarified that the Privately Initiated Proposal involving the Adani Group was formally cancelled and that there are currently no discussions with the company or any of its affiliates regarding the airport.
“The Kenya Airports Authority confirms that the Privately Initiated Proposal with the Adani Group was cancelled, and there are no engagements whatsoever with the Group in relation to JKIA,” the authority stated.
Government Fully Funding JKIA Project
KAA emphasised that the ongoing modernisation and expansion of JKIA is a government-driven initiative, being implemented in line with established public-sector policies, procurement laws and institutional procedures.
“The JKIA modernisation and expansion programme is fully funded by the government of Kenya and is being implemented in line with approved public-sector frameworks,” the statement added.
The clarification follows allegations by a local newspaper suggesting that the Adani Group could still be linked to the airport’s redevelopment.
High Court to Mention Petition in May
On February 24, 2026, KAA confirmed that the Kenyan government had officially terminated the Sh238 billion airport renovation agreement with Adani Group.
The High Court of Kenya has scheduled the petition regarding the matter to be mentioned on May 6, 2026, for further directions.
JKIA remains Kenya’s main international gateway and a strategic national asset, making any changes to its ownership, financing or operational structure a matter of heightened public interest and scrutiny.
