Thousands of Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) customers are experiencing difficulties purchasing electricity tokens following a widespread system outage affecting the utility’s prepaid services.

In a statement, KPLC confirmed the disruption, acknowledging that customers are currently unable to buy power tokens through its platforms.

The electricity distributor said technical teams are actively working to resolve the issue and restore services as quickly as possible.

“We are aware of the service interruption affecting the purchase of electricity tokens and are working to restore normal operations,” the company said.

The outage has affected thousands of prepaid electricity users across the country, with many taking to social media to report failed token purchases and seek updates from the utility.

KPLC has apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured customers that further updates will be issued as restoration efforts continue.

The company has urged affected customers to remain patient as engineers work to resolve the technical problem and resume normal service.
