Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has come out strongly in defence of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), calling for restraint and internal democracy amid rising tensions within the party.
Calls for Unity and Dialogue
Speaking during a period of growing divisions, the legislator urged party members to resolve disputes internally and avoid actions that could harm the party’s unity.
Millie cautioned that mistreating members could backfire, warning that such actions risk turning dissenting voices into symbols of resistance.
“Mistreated Sifuna Has Become a Hero”
She referenced the case of Edwin Sifuna, suggesting that how he has been handled within the party has elevated his public profile.
“Our mistreated Sifuna is what has made Sifuna a hero. So let us be careful the way we are dealing with our issues,” she said.
Claims of Intimidation
Millie also alleged that she has previously faced intimidation for speaking out on internal matters. She claimed that individuals were sent to attack her after she raised concerns within the party.
Additionally, she recounted being shouted down during a gathering in Kisumu, highlighting what she described as hostility towards dissenting opinions.
Reaffirms Loyalty to ODM
Despite the challenges, the MP reaffirmed her loyalty to ODM, emphasizing that her criticism is intended to strengthen the party rather than undermine it.
“As a party that I love, we must strengthen our party… and that means there must be internal party democracy,” she stated.
Her remarks come as ODM continues to navigate internal disagreements over leadership and direction ahead of future political contests.
