Everose Chemtai, the widow of renowned gynaecologist and obstetrician Dr. Job Obwaka, has emotionally recounted the doctor’s final moments before his sudden death.
Speaking during his requiem mass at CITAM Valley Road, Everose shared how she spent his final hours with him on the morning of May 1.
“Those Were His Last Words”
According to Everose, the day began normally as the doctor prepared to leave the house early in the morning.
“At 7:30am, I heard him come from the shower, and I asked him where he was going that early, and he asked me to wake up to have breakfast,” she recalled.
She said she initially hesitated to get out of bed, but her husband playfully pulled away the duvet so they could share breakfast together.
The couple reportedly spent several hours together before he left.
“We finished at about 10:30, and he told me, ‘Your hair is very bad. Take this KSh 10,000 and go make your hair.’”
Everose added that when she asked him about lunch plans, he reassured her they would instead have dinner together later that day.
“When I asked about lunch, he told me not to worry, we would have dinner, and those were his last words,” she said emotionally.
Doctor Later Collapsed in Kitengela
Dr. Obwaka later died after reportedly collapsing at an apartment in Kitengela.
According to an affidavit sworn by Beatrice Wangari, the 45-year-old woman he allegedly spent time with that evening, the doctor had visited her apartment where they shared a meal and later became intimate.
She stated that after some time, he was found lying unresponsive on the bed.
Rushed to Nairobi Hospital
With assistance from a neighbor, an ambulance was called and Dr. Obwaka was rushed to Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The circumstances surrounding his death have continued to attract widespread public attention and emotional reactions online.
