Kenyan socialite Vera Sidika has opened up about her divorce from singer Brown Mauzo, revealing that she allegedly endured physical abuse and emotional stress during their marriage.
The two, who share two children, announced their separation in 2023 after being together for several years.
Speaking in a recent interview, Vera said she had always dreamed of building a stable family because she grew up in a loving home where her parents remained happily married.
“I always wanted a family set because I come from a family unit. My parents are still together and very happily married,” she said.
The mother of two explained that when she met Brown Mauzo, she believed he was the right partner and eventually decided to settle down and start a family with him.
“When I felt like I met the person who had the qualities and characteristics I was looking for, I felt maybe it was time we got married legally,” she said.
However, Vera admitted that the marriage later became difficult and emotionally draining, forcing her to make the painful decision to walk away for the sake of her children’s wellbeing.
She said she tried hard to save the relationship because she did not want her children to grow up in a broken home.
“I struggled to fix it and make the family whole and make it work, but sometimes it gets to a point you get pushed,” she explained.
Vera further alleged that she experienced violence during the relationship and claimed that at one point her passport disappeared shortly before scheduled work trips to the United States.
According to her, the stress she experienced also affected her health and ability to breastfeed her young son.
“I went through a lot; my passport with my visas disappeared. I am dealing with police cases and so many other things. Violence and all that – it was a scary thing,” she alleged.
Despite the challenges, Vera said she chose not to publicly discuss the details earlier because she wanted to protect the father of her children.
She added that leaving the relationship eventually opened new opportunities and helped her regain peace and stability in her life.
