Fresh leadership wrangles have erupted within former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s National Economic Development Party (NEDP) after several senior officials were suspended over alleged misconduct and insubordination.
In a statement, Sonko accused the suspended officials of operating outside the party’s established leadership structures and making county leadership appointments without consultation or approval.
He further alleged that some of the officials had been extorting money from members of the public while using his name to solicit funds.
The former governor said such actions were contrary to the party’s principles and warranted disciplinary action.
Sonko also threatened to release what he claimed were private videos involving some of the suspended officials, alleging the recordings were captured during a party meeting in Kakamega.
According to Sonko, the officials engaged in private conduct during the meeting that he says contradicts the values expected of party leaders.
The suspended officials had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication. The claims, including those regarding the alleged videos, remain unverified.
