A police officer who killed a bodaboda rider outside the Malindi Airport, Kilifi County on Thursday evening has killed himself using the same gun he used to shoot the rider.

Police Constable David Mugiri shot himself under the chin using the same rifle he used to kill the bodaboda rider Elvis Thoya on Thursday evening.

The officer’s body was discovered in a thicket at the Kwa Chocha area, about 800 meters from the Malindi Airport on Friday morning beside his gun.

The officers who attended the scene said his CZ rifle that he used in the incident lay next to the body.

Locals say they heard a gunshot from the location the body was found. The body has been moved to Malindi mortuary waiting for autopsy and investigations.
