At least 14,000 teachers will start the new academic year in different working stations after Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia approved a mass transfer.
The transfers come before the lapsing of the deadline given to the TSC by the National Assembly’s committee on education to reverse a delocalization policy that forced teachers to work away from their homes.
The delocalization policy which was heavily criticized by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has been in place since 2017.
The affected 14,613 teachers have been given up to January 23 to report to their new work stations
In terms of numbers 10,934 transfers will affect primary school teachers, while 189 deputy head teachers will be transferred, and 1,948 head teachers will be changing stations.
Another 1,316 secondary school teachers and 226 principals will also be beneficiaries of the transfers.
