Fredrick ole Leliman, a police officer believed to have been the mastermind of the brutal murder of Lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and driver Joseph Muiruri in 2016 has been sentenced to death.
While delivering the long-awaited verdict today, justice Jessie Lessit singled out Leliman for masterminding the murder and acting in flagrant abuse of his office. Police officers Stephen Cheburet, Sylvia Wanjiku and informer Peter Ngugi were jailed for 30, 24 and 20 years respectively.
This is after the judge found all of them guilty in participating in the murder of lawyer Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri on June 23, 2016. The bodies of the three men were found stashed in gunny bags in Ol Donyo Sabuk, Machakos County, on July 1, 2016.
Justice Lessit said the killing of Lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and driver Joseph Muiruri was “a most foul murder, an execution that was most heinous.”
The prosecution produced in court 46 witnesses to testify against the accused persons who in their defence brought forth 36 witnesses to defend them from the charges.
