Retired president Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived at the Jubilee Party National Delegate Conference (NDC) taking place at the Ngong Racecourse grounds. Uhuru who is Jubilee’s party leader arrived at 12 pm accompanied by embattled Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and Vice Chairperson David Murathe.
It is anticipated that Uhuru will use the NDC to oust party rebels in an effort to establish his authority within the party in the face of attacks from Ms. Chege and MP Kanini Kega of the East Africa Legislative Assembly.
“Anyone with dissenting views about this NDC should come here and challenge the former president and seek leadership positions within the party,” said Kioni.
The former President Uhuru Kenyatta-led outfit moved its meeting from the initial venue at Bomas of Kenya on Friday after they were informed that there are ongoing renovation works at the premise which began on May 16 and are expected to go on for eight weeks.
“We have people who have left the party while others have been appointed to other institutions and the law requires that they let go of party positions and so the members will have an opportunity to replace them,” said Kioni.
“We would also want to reaffirm our continued presence in Azimio and address issues of housekeeping and others that have become a nightmare to Kenyans like the high cost of living, the sinking economy and multi-party democracy which is under threat under the Kenya Kwanza regime,” said Kioni.
The NDC is taking place on the backdrop of a stiff contention in the party over its leadership as factions from East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega and former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni have tussled over who sits at the party’s top seat.
