The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has taken decisive steps to ensure the integrity of this year’s national examinations by releasing a set of stringent guidelines for candidates scheduled to sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
These guidelines are aimed at curbing cheating during the upcoming examinations. The KCPE and KCSE national examinations are scheduled to commence on October 30 and October 23, respectively.
In an official statement, KNEC has outlined specific items that will be strictly prohibited within the examination rooms. The ban is aimed at maintaining the sanctity of the examination process. Candidates have been urged to adhere to these guidelines without exception.
The prohibited items include wristwatches and programmable calculators, which will not be allowed in the examination rooms.
Furthermore, handbags, briefcases, backpacks, and kiondos will be strictly forbidden in the examination centers.
Other prohibited items include electronic devices such as mobile phones, smart watches, earphones, tablets, body cameras, camera pens, and any items with Bluetooth capabilities.
KNEC has also warned candidates against attempting any form of cheating. The examinations’ body emphasized the prohibition of clothing, footwear, or any materials with handwritten notes that could potentially be used for unfair advantage during the examinations.
The council announced that it will be vigilant in preventing candidates from carrying any form of writing on their bodies. However, KNEC will exempt tattoos that have been officially declared.
