Former Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed’s residence in Kakamega County was on Tuesday, January 09, demolished to pave way for President William Ruto’s Affordable Housing initiative.
The house, situated in the upscale Milimani Estate, was reportedly acquired by the diplomat’s brother in 2019.
A team of demolition experts arrived at the scene and began dismantling the property.
According to the caretaker, the contingent breached the homestead’s fence before initiating the demolition. Despite an initial court order to halt the demolition, the residence registered under Lucas Nandih Shamalla was brought down in full view of the public.
Last year, on October 11, the Environment and Land Court in Kakamega issued an order to stop the government from demolishing the luxurious house until a hearing and decision were made regarding Shamalla’s case. The case listed the Interior and Coordination of National Government PS, Regional Commissioner Western, and the Attorney General as respondents, filed by the property owner.
Apart from the former CS Amina Mohammed, the demolitions also targeted a house belonging to Billionaire Jaswant Singh Rai, chairman of the West Kenya Sugar Company.
