The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Francis Ogolla, and Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome conducted a visit to various parts of Baringo County in response to recent bandit attacks that claimed six lives in the region.
The tour, part of Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) aimed at restoring peace, included visits to the Multi-Agency Command Centre and Kolowa Primary School in Baringo County.
During the visit, security officials were briefed on the current security status and the progress achieved since the launch of the operation in the troubled North Rift region.
The leaders commended the team for their dedicated service and emphasized the importance of collaboration between security agencies and local communities.
Acknowledging ongoing projects and exercises contributing to peace and stability in the North Rift region, Gen Ogolla affirmed the commitment to the operation’s objectives, highlighting the use of the Multi-Agency framework.
Inspector General Koome expressed dedication to addressing insecurity in the area and announced plans to equip Kolowa police station with modern facilities to enhance service delivery.
The leaders also inspected the ongoing renovation at Kolowa Primary School, aligning with the presidential directive to improve schools in the region.
They observed new classrooms, sanitation blocks, and the renovation of other structures, emphasizing the government’s commitment to development in the region.
Present during the visit were Maj Gen Jeff Nyagah, General Officer Commanding Western Command (GOC WESTCOM), and Brigadier Ahmed Saman, Army Special Operations Brigade Commander, among others.
The visit follows a recent bandit attack in Baringo North Sub-County that resulted in six fatalities, sparking tension and concerns among villagers. The security officials’ tour aims to assess the situation, address community concerns, and reinforce the commitment to restoring peace in the region.
Despite the ongoing curfew, armed bandits continue to defy restrictions and stage attacks for livestock, necessitating continued efforts to curb the menace.
