The Kenyan passport has maintained its global ranking as the 67th most powerful travel document, as revealed in the latest Henley Passport Index Report released on Wednesday.
While some African passports experienced a decline by one or three places, the Kenyan passport remained steady in its position.
The report also highlights the number of countries Kenyan passport holders can visit without a visa or obtain one on arrival, holding steady at 76 destinations in January.
Mauritius, still leading the continent, slipped one rank from 30th to 29th globally, allowing passport holders to visit 148 countries visa-free. However, Lesotho dropped from 64th to 65th, Namibia from 62nd to 65th, and Malawi from 68th to 67th.
The mobility score, measuring the number of countries accessible without a visa or with visa on arrival, remained unchanged for Kenyan passport holders.
Notably, Kenya was ranked the most open country globally, sharing the top spot with nations such as Burundi, Cape Verde Islands, Comoro Islands, Djibouti, Maldives, Mozambique, and Rwanda, all scoring a perfect 198 out of a total openness score of 198.
The Henley Openness Index, which assesses the number of destinations accessible without a prior visa for passport holders, uses data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Leading the list of the world’s most powerful passports are France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain.
