Lucy Wambui Jennings, a 50-year-old rancher in Laikipia County, narrowly escaped a life-threatening attack by unknown persons who ambushed her on her way to a morning church service in Rumuruti town.

Jennings’ ranch is located within Thome location, in Laikipia West.

According to police reports, Jennings sustained critical injuries, including a gunshot wound at the back of her head and her arm during the assault.

Fortunately, her quick-thinking family members and friends managed to rescue her, rushing her to Rumuruti Sub-County Hospital. Later, she was transferred to Pope Benedict XVI Hospital in Nyahururu, where she is currently admitted and receiving medical care.

According to local reports, this was not the first time Jennings had been targeted by criminals.

Security officers in Laikipia West are actively pursuing illegal grazers suspected to be responsible for the attack on Jennings.

Residents are now calling for enhanced security measures in areas where such clashes are prevalent. They have urged the government to deploy additional National Police Reservists to weed out illegal grazers and individuals possessing unlicensed firearms.
