DCI Police in Keiyo South Sub County have unearthed what they believe to be the body of Silvanos Tubei, the former head of the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA).
Tubei vanished from his residence in Kabiemit village on September 26, 2012, prompting concerns about his fate.
However, on January 1, 2024, children gathering firewood stumbled upon human remains buried in a shallow grave a short distance from Tubei’s luxurious home.
Fueled by curiosity, the children accidentally unearthed a blanket buried near a flower bed and were met with a strong odor. They promptly alerted the gardener, who informed a local chief about the discovery.
Tubei’s clothing, presumably the attire he wore when he disappeared, was also found interred with the blanket.
Two days later, law enforcement in Keiyo South Sub-County secured a court order from the Iten Magistrate’s Court to facilitate the exhumation of the remains from the property. Scores of relatives gathered at the site, hopeful that the long-closed case might find new life with this revelation.
The recovered remains were transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue. Authorities plan to conduct a DNA test to ascertain whether the remains indeed belong to Tubei.
Investigations into Tubei’s disappearance have not yet recommenced.
Authorities expressed optimism that the DNA tests and autopsy findings would provide crucial leads for the ongoing inquiry. The status regarding potential extradition proceedings for Tubei’s wife and two children, who had relocated abroad after the case’s closure, remains uncertain.
