President William Ruto on Tuesday, December 02, challenged Azimio leader Raila Odinga to assist Kenya move forward by giving alternatives to the tough economic times Kenya is facing instead of calling for Maandamano (protests).
“Let me tell the opposition, instead of trying to bring violence, tell Kenyans the alternative that you have,” Ruto stated.
According to the president, calling for nationwide protests will only further worsen the economy and push Kenyans into further struggle. The president instead called for the opposition to offer viable solutions to the current woes facing Kenya.
The president was speaking during the burial of Michael Waweru, father of Nyandarua Senator John Methu in Nyandarua.
According to the president, the opposition’s threats to bring back Maandamano is an intimidation tactic meant to force the government to adhere to their demands.
Last week, Azimio leader Raila Odinga had threatend to call for nationwide protests if the government does not repeal the Finance Act.
“Tumesema mwaka mpya, hii sheria ya kodi, mpaka itolewe…ile Finance Bill, lazima itolewe. Wasipotoa hiyo finance bill, tutarudi kwenye uwanja!” Raila said then.
