In Kirinyaga County, authorities have taken swift action following the apprehension of the chief of Giacong’e location in Ndai Constituency on suspicion of defiling a 13-year-old girl.
Moses Koskei, the Kirinyaga West sub-county police commander, confirmed that the chief was arrested based on a statement filed by the girl’s family at Baricho police station.
The allegations against the chief are deeply troubling, as he is accused of sexually assaulting the young girl, a junior secondary school student at a local institution, and impregnating her before coercing her into terminating the pregnancy. Currently detained at Baricho police station, the chief’s case is under investigation.
The family’s ordeal, compounded by the search for the missing girl since last Friday, underscores the urgency of addressing such incidents promptly. Family members expressed their regret over the delayed reporting, citing the girl’s absence as a hindrance.
Upon being informed of the situation, Jane Njeri, the Kirinyaga Woman Representative, swiftly facilitated the official report through her office.
She emphasized collaboration with victim protection agencies and FIDA to ensure the girl’s welfare and pursue legal action. Njeri highlighted the distressing recurrence of such incidents, indicating a disturbing pattern of abuse that demands concerted action.
The County MP stressed the importance of parents and guardians closely monitoring their children and promptly reporting any instances of sexual abuse to the authorities for swift justice.
She urged the community to remain vigilant against individuals who exploit their positions of trust for nefarious purposes, emphasizing the need for collective effort to protect vulnerable members of society.
