Floyd Mayweather made headlines when he publicly disclosed that he shelled out a staggering eight-figure sum in taxes over the past year, sharing the revelation on social media.
Widely recognized as one of the wealthiest athletes in history, Mayweather’s illustrious career in the boxing ring has earned him massive fight purses, earning him the moniker “Money.”
Despite retiring from professional boxing, Mayweather has remained active with exhibition fights and is involved in various business ventures and real estate holdings. Taking to Instagram, Mayweather revealed the hefty tax payment he made to the IRS, amounting to a jaw-dropping $18,047,181 (£14.3 million).
“This is what I owed in taxes while I’m retired so just imagine what I was paying when I was activated,” Mayweather wrote in his Instagram post, shedding light on the substantial tax burden he faced.
Earlier in the day, Mayweather had shared another expenditure on social media—a bill for his suite purchase to watch the Super Bowl in Las Vegas with 34 friends. Asserting his independence, Mayweather emphasized that he prefers to secure his own accommodations, stating, “I don’t mind accepting invites at times, but one thing’s for sure… The person that’s paying does all the saying.”
Mayweather’s total bill for the Super Bowl suite experience amounted to an astounding $1,131,000.00 (£896,000), further showcasing his extravagant spending habits.
Despite his hefty tax obligations, Mayweather’s boxing activity in 2023 was relatively limited, with only one fight against Aaron Chalmers in February, a non-scored bout lasting eight rounds. Nonetheless, Mayweather’s financial disclosures continue to captivate audiences, underscoring his enduring influence and status in the sports and entertainment world.
