A rescue attempt turned tragic when a middle-aged man was fatally stabbed by a furious woman in the Kaplemeiwet area of Kipkoiyan, Belgut sub-county, in what appears to be a case of a love triangle.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the man met his death while attempting to rescue his mother-in-law, who was reportedly engaged in a physical altercation with another woman over a man.
The man who lives in the same ‘plot’ within the same compound as his mother-in-law heard a disturbance emanating from the other houses and rushed to intervene.
Upon arriving at the scene, he found his mother-in-law embroiled in a heated confrontation with another female resident of the compound.
According to residents, the altercation stemmed from a romantic entanglement involving the enraged female assailant and a man, with rumors suggesting that the deceased’s mother-in-law was also involved.
Tensions escalated, leading to a physical altercation between the two women.
Unable to stand idly by while his mother-in-law was being beaten, the deceased intervened, attempting to separate the fighting women.
However, as he attempted to pull his mother-in-law away from the catfight, he was fatally stabbed by the spurned woman.
The assailant was brandishing a kitchen knife intending to harm her femalerival. However, in the chaos of the moment, the fatal blow struck the man’s neck, resulting in his immediate death.
Onlookers, albeit too late, rushed to assist upon realizing the situation was getting out of hand.
However, despite their efforts and attempts to take the injured man to a hospital, he had already succumbed to his injuries.
Amidst the reigning confusion, the assailant fled the scene, evading capture by the irate crowd.
Police officers from Sosiot police station responded to the incident and transferred the victim’s body to the mortuary at Kericho referral hospital.
