Tragedy struck at Igunga Girls High School in Vihiga County as one student lost her life and several others sustained injuries when a motor vehicle rammed into a group of Form One students.

Sabatia Sub County OCPD Patrick Gogo confirmed the incident, explaining that the students were crossing the road from their classes to their dormitories when the accident took place.

The student tragically passed away at the scene, while the other three injured students were swiftly taken to Vihiga Referral Hospital for urgent medical attention.

“We had a tragic accident today where a speeding motor vehicle struck down four students, one of whom tragically lost their life instantly. The remaining three are currently receiving treatment at the hospital and are in stable condition,” stated Gogo.

Meanwhile, authorities have apprehended the suspect, who is a medical doctor, and impounded the vehicle, which has been taken to Vihiga Police Station for further investigation.

The suspect is slated to appear in court to answer to a range of traffic-related charges, including causing death and injury.
