Former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe has been appointed as one of six new Managing Directors by the South African-based company Tiger Brands.
In a statement released on Thursday, Tiger Brands announced Igathe’s appointment to head the International Brands Unit, a strategic move aimed at propelling the company’s business forward.
“We are pleased to announce the internal appointment of six managing directors who will be leading our newly organized business units, following a review of our operating model and structure to enable consumer obsession, agile execution, and innovation,” the statement read.
Joining Igathe in the new appointments are Quinton Swart, who will lead the Bakeries unit, Dumo Mfini for Culinary, Grant Pereira for Snacks, Treats, and Beverages, Liezel Holmes for Grains, and Ismail Nanabhay for Home, Personal Care, and Baby.
Tiger Brands, a renowned food and beverage company with a strong presence across the African continent, operates in 25 countries with focus markets in Cameroon, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria.
Igathe’s return to Tiger Brands comes after his previous role as the Regional Managing Director for East Africa business from 2008 to 2013. He rejoined the company in November 2023 as the Chief Growth Officer.
With an illustrious career in the corporate world, Igathe has held leadership positions in top organizations, including Coca-Cola, Kenya Breweries, Haco Industries, Vivo Energy, as well as Equity Bank.
He briefly served as the Deputy Governor of Nairobi in 2017 before pursuing the gubernatorial seat in the 2022 elections, though unsuccessfully.
