President William Ruto has on Friday evening held a meeting with Princess Zahra Aga Khan, the daughter to Nation Media Group’s majority shareholder His Highness the Aga Khan.
The meeting which was held this evening at State House took place in the middle of a protracted war between the state and some media houses including Nation Media.
The Aga Khan is the 49th hereditary and current Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims.
His business empire spreads across several sectors in Kenya including health, insurance, banking, education, media, energy amd hospitality.
“Kenya appreciates the significant contribution of the Aga Khan Development Network in the fields of health, education, financial services and energy,” said Ruto of his meeting with Princess Zahra without mentioning Aga Khan’s media investment despite the fact that he owns East Africa’s largest media company.
“We look forward to more collaboration in other sectors as we enhance public-private partnerships in our development agenda,” he said.
Princess Zahra is presumed to be the Aga Khan’s heir.
The last time The Aga Khan was in Kenya met the president was in 2015 after the main stream media houses switched off their broadcasts in protest of the introduction of digital broadcasting.
A meeting between the Aga Khan and retired president Uhuru Kenyatta unlocked the deadlock. Media houses resumed broadcasts immediately.
Last week, Nation Media complained that it was under attack from un named individuals due to back to back exposes against poor government delivery.
