A tragic incident unfolded in a village in Kitui County as a 19-year-old woman was apprehended following allegations of killing her mother-in-law and partially burning her body during a domestic altercation.
Veronica Ndinda Maneene, 55, was discovered dead outside her residence in Ikutha after the events of Saturday, February 24, according to authorities.
Police, upon arriving at the scene, noted that Maneene had sustained injuries from a blunt object and had been partially burnt, with a mattress used in the process.
Initial investigations by the police team revealed that a domestic dispute preceded the fatal altercation, during which the suspect purportedly struck her mother-in-law in the head.
The exact motives behind the quarrel remain undisclosed at this time, with authorities confirming that only the victim and the suspect were present in the household during the tragic incident.
Following the fatal confrontation, the suspect allegedly moved the body outside the residence and proceeded to partially burn it using remnants of old mattresses, before concealing it beneath loose stones.
Law enforcement officials promptly intervened, discovering the victim’s body partially obscured by the stones.
The remains were subsequently transferred to the morgue at Mutomo Level Four Hospital for preservation and postmortem examination.
The suspect, identified as Faith Mwikali Mwania, aged 19, has been taken into custody pending formal charges, as confirmed by the police.
Authorities have indicated their intent to seek a court order for the detainment of the suspect to facilitate a mental health assessment prior to any legal proceedings.
