A 37-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a young woman in Mwala, Machakos County.
Nancy Jerobon, the Mwala sub-county police commander, said the suspect was arrested at Wamunyu trading center following a tip-off from members of the community. He had reportedly fled and gone into hiding after committing the crime.
The arrest was made following a report filed earlier at Wamunyu police patrol base by a woman, who claimed that her 16-year-old daughter had been defiled by the suspect. The report was made on February 26 at 9:36 pm.
According to Jerobon, the complainant, a resident of Mbaikini village, stated that her daughter was attacked by the suspect at Muundani village while returning home from Wamunyu market. The suspect then took her to a nearby bush and raped her.
The victim was later treated and discharged from Wamunyu Level 3 Hospital.
Jerobon further mentioned that the suspect was apprehended by officers from Wamunyu police patrol base and is currently in lawful custody awaiting arraignment in court.
A medical examination plus inquiries by the police revealed that the victim was above 18 years (born in 2005).
