Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has issued a strong warning to police officers found collaborating with criminals for personal gain, stating that they will face dismissal and prosecution instead of being transferred to other work stations, as has been customary.
Kindiki delivered this warning on Saturday while addressing the Security and Intelligence Committee of Meru County, giving them a two-week ultimatum to eradicate the threat of livestock rustling in Mutuati and other areas of Meru North.
The Interior CS expressed appreciation for the dedication and hard work of security officers operating in regions prone to banditry. He also announced a system of rewards for officers who effectively combat livestock rustling, promising promotions and state honors for their achievements.
“Officers who successfully neutralize the menace of livestock rustling will be acknowledged and rewarded through promotions and other state honors,” Kindiki stated.
However, he warned of severe consequences for officers who are negligent or collaborate with criminals.
“Similarly, security officers who demonstrate negligence or collude with criminals for personal gain will face severe punishment. We will no longer transfer such rogue officers; instead, we will terminate their employment and prosecute them,” Kindiki emphasized.
CS Kindiki also assured the county security team of the necessary equipment and logistical support to effectively confront armed criminals who have been terrorizing residents through continuous livestock raids.
