Popular comedian Nasra Yusuf has faced backlash following the release of a comedic video depicting Muslim men during Iftar, the evening meal to break the fast during Ramadan.
The one-minute video, shared by Nasra, portrays a scenario where she plays the role of a Muslim man. In the skit, Nasra’s character, seated on a couch, is served snacks by her ‘wife’ as they break their fast.
However, the tone takes a controversial turn when Nasra’s character expresses sexual interest in her spouse, asking her to join her in the bedroom.
“Kuja nikuonyeshe kitu utaanza nayo… Ngoja, sio hii pande. Nakuonyeshea bedroom,” Nasra’s character remarks.
Following the encounter in the bedroom, the couple returns to the living room, seemingly satisfied, with Nasra’s character settling back on the couch and asking her ‘wife’ how she feels.
“Iko aje? Sasa ile maneno ulikuwa unasema mi nataka, mi naanza nayo ile chakula chakula… Letea mimi saa hii… Lakini wewe iko sawa? Sindio? Iko sawa kabisa? Kila kitu iko pahali yake? Ama turudi?” she says.
However, the video failed to resonate positively with many viewers, particularly among Nasra’s Muslim fanbase. Criticism poured in, with fans accusing her of trivializing religious practices and sexualizing a sacred occasion like Ramadan.
