A police officer died by suicide after he shot himself in the chin in his house in Laikipia County.

Authorities revealed that Andrew Miranyi Gati  was discovered deceased in his home after inflicting a fatal gunshot wound to his left chin using his G3 rifle.

The bullet tragically exited through his left ear, resulting in instant death. The firearm, along with 19 bullets, was recovered at the scene.

Gati’s body has been transferred to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise.

The motive behind his decision to take his own life remains a mystery, leaving authorities grappling for answers.

This devastating incident sheds light on a concerning trend, as at least three suicide cases involving police officers are reported each month.

In response, efforts have been intensified to address the mental health challenges faced by law enforcement personnel.

Police authorities have taken proactive measures, including the establishment of counselling services, to provide support to officers dealing with stress and psychological issues. The National Police Service Commission has also set up a dedicated unit staffed with professionals to address the complex needs of officers in distress.
