In a significant breakthrough, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have intercepted 67 bales of bhang and apprehended two suspects in the Kimbimbi area of Mwea, Kirinyaga County.
The operation, spearheaded by DCI’s Operations Support detectives, was launched following extensive intelligence gathering, which tracked two vehicles suspected of transporting bhang from Moyale.
“This achievement is the result of a meticulous intelligence-led pursuit of two vehicles from Moyale by DCI’s Operations Support detectives, culminating in the seizure of 67 bales of bhang and the arrest of two traffickers at Kimbimbi area in Mwea, Kirinyaga County,” stated the DCI on its official X account on Saturday.
This successful operation further bolsters the ongoing efforts against drug trafficking in Kenya. Just last month, authorities intercepted 132 bales of bhang from a truck along the Garissa-Thika Road in Mwingi, leading to the arrest of two suspects who were subsequently brought to Nairobi for further investigation.
In another operation on February 9, 2024, DCI personnel discovered 28 bales of bhang concealed on the roof cabin of a lorry allegedly transporting mattresses. A meticulous search uncovered a hidden compartment reinforced with robust bolts and rails, revealing an additional 104 bales of bhang.
The truck driver, Daniel Yohana, and his co-driver, Ismael Wako, were apprehended as part of the intelligence-driven operation, which involved collaboration among various law enforcement agencies.
