A witness has informed the court that government vehicles were used to track, apprehend, and dispose of the bodies of a Kenyan taxi driver and two Indian nationals in the Aberdares National Park, Nyeri County, in July 2022.
During a session at the Kahawa Law Courts in Kiambu County on Tuesday, the witness revealed that the vehicles implicated belonged to the now-defunct Special Services Unit (SSU) of the DCI.
Specifically, one vehicle with registration number GKB 038U was tracked entering the Tree Tops gate of the park at 6:34 pm on July 22, 2022—beyond the official visiting hours of 6 am to 6 pm.
Moreover, the vehicle’s entry was not documented in the gate vehicle register book, as per records retrieved from Kenya Wildlife Service gate registers.
Thirteen officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are among the fifteen suspects facing trial for their alleged involvement in the murder of Mohamed Zaid Sami, Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan, and their driver, Nicodemus Mwania Mwange.
The fifteen have been charged with abduction with intent to murder; conspiracy to commit a felony; subjecting a person to cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment; and committing cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.
They are also facing charges of cooperating in the execution of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment and forgery.
The witness further detailed that 20 mobile phones belonging to the accused individuals were confiscated and subjected to forensic analysis by the DCI before being forwarded to the Communications Authority of Kenya.
Subsequently, they were sent to India for additional analysis to gather more insights into the events surrounding the alleged abduction of the three victims during that period.
