The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has issued a fresh strike notice for the upcoming week vowing to continue downing their tools until their demands are met.
While Addressing the media outside the Council of Governors (CoG) offices in Westlands on Friday, KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah declared that the protests will persist until the Ministry of Health responds to their demands.
“We will strike for 100 days or even 200 days. We will not cease until the government implements the CBA as agreed,” Atellah asserted.
The current doctors’ strike is currently on its ninth day.
Atellah informed the medical practitioners that there will be a union assembly on Monday, March 25, followed by a fresh demonstration on Wednesday next week.
The doctors took to the streets on Friday, demanding the Ministry of Health to honor the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) established in 2017.
Among their grievances are the delayed posting of interns, fair remuneration of interns, postgraduate training, employment of more doctors, and comprehensive health coverage for medics.
Atellah criticized the Ministry of Health for causing frustration among Kenyan doctors by straying from the terms of the CBA. He emphasized that addressing their concerns is crucial for the government to achieve universal health coverage (UHC).
