Kelvin Kiptum, the late world marathon record holder, has been honored with induction into the Talanta Hall of Fame in a ceremony held at Talanta Plaza in Nairobi. The event was presided over by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.
Present at the event was Kiptum’s son, Caleb Kigen.
“Together with Caleb Kigen, I led the unveiling ceremony to honor one of Kenya’s most esteemed marathon runners and the current world record holder,” Ababu stated.
“This occasion holds special significance as it marks the inaugural formal induction, with Kelvin being the first of our legends to be formally recognized in this Hall of Fame, standing as a permanent tribute to his remarkable contributions.”
“This is both a proud and somber moment as we commemorate the induction of a talented athlete who left us prematurely,” Ababu continued.
The Talanta Hall of Fame serves as a prestigious platform to celebrate excellence in the fields of creativity, sports, and innovation.
Kiptum’s name will now be enshrined in the Hall of Fame alongside other legendary figures from the world of sports and the creative economy.
The Hall of Fame also features iconic sportsmen, sportswomen, and creative personalities such as Joe Kadenge (football), Paul Tergat (athletics), and Ngugi wa Thiongo (author), among others.
