President William Ruto has reiterated his government’s unwavering commitment to combatting alcohol and drug abuse, emphasizing that it drains the nation of its productive workforce.
Speaking in Nyeri County during the launch of the centenary celebrations of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Kenya at the Nyeri National Polytechnic, the president vowed to persist in the fight until victory is achieved.
“We have taken a firm stance; it cannot be business as usual. We cannot afford to be a nation consumed by alcohol; we must prioritize being a nation driven by productivity. Those who criticize our closure of bars and express discontent, we cannot yield to their wishes,” remarked the president.
President Ruto highlighted the severe repercussions of alcohol and drug abuse on the country, particularly noting the detrimental impact on the nation’s workforce.
“Unaenda kwa shopping centre, to towns to villages and estates, unakuta vijana wamelewa, who can hardly stand straight and so we are going to be firm, we are going to be straight forward, because I know as a matter of fact that no one can die for not taking alcohol,” Ruto added.
