Six counties in the Lake Victoria region are set to receive Sh7.4 billion to aid in the restoration of ecological zones damaged by climate change.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u announced this on Monday, highlighting that the funds are part of a $297 million grant allocated under the FLLoCA program.
The Government of Kenya received funds from the World Bank for the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Program. Part of these funds will be utilized for various purposes, including mapping out Civil Society Organizations engaged in climate change adaptation and mitigation activities at county and sub-county levels across Kenya.
The overarching objective of the program is to implement locally-led climate resilience actions and enhance the capacity of county and national governments to manage climate risks.
CS Ndung’u emphasized the importance of investing in mitigating the effects of climate change to safeguard the country’s economy, which heavily depends on natural resources.
