Kisii Governor Simba Arati expressed frustration on Monday over the release of suspects linked to Saturday’s break-in at Ichuni MCA’s office in Keroka, Masaba South.
The thieves reportedly made away with office equipment worth thousands of shillings during the raid on Saturday night.
Wycliff Siocha, the local Ward Rep, condemned the incident.
However, Masaba North Subcounty police boss Robert Ndambiri did not respond to calls seeking comment on the matter.
The break-in at the MCA’s office occurred shortly after stalls were torched in Keroka town, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
Arati voiced his concern over the release of the suspected thugs, stating that it undermines his administration’s efforts to seek justice.
“It definitely raises questions when security agencies arrest and release them without proper trial,” Arati said.
He also referenced the alleged murder of a boda boda rider in Kenyenya on Friday, where a key suspect was released under unclear circumstances.
Arati made these remarks on Monday after presiding over the distribution of hass avocados to farmers.
At least 200,000 seedlings are set for distribution to farmers in the subcounty as part of efforts by the county administration to boost avocado production in the region.
Arati urged residents to embrace the variety, noting its high demand in the global market compared to other cash crops, as it is used in various products.
