Atwoli claims Ruto won the election because he was smarter than Raila

The Secretary-General of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), Francis Atwoli, has revisited the contentious 2022 presidential election, offering his perspective on why President William Ruto ultimately emerged victorious.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s JKLive show on Wednesday night, Atwoli conceded that Ruto displayed greater political acumen and a superior campaign strategy compared to his preferred candidate, Raila Odinga

“William was smart, and his smartness surpassed my expectations…perhaps Azimio lacked such a strategic team…He had an exceptional logistic and strategic committee to propel him to State House,” Atwoli remarked.

He further elaborated that while Azimio supporters were vocal in public rallies, Ruto’s team diligently monitored and analyzed the situation, adjusting their strategies accordingly to counter any criticisms or challenges.

Atwoli stopped short of admitting that Azimio may have been disadvantaged due to their association with the then-incumbent president, which provided them with access to state resources.

“The best candidate wins because they have effective mechanisms in place. While we had hope and various mechanisms, we also had the advantage of the sitting president and state resources. However, Ruto’s team was proactive and focused on strengthening their position to win the election,” Atwoli explained.
