The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has shortlisted 41 candidates for Court of Appeal judge positions, a list that includes some prominent figures while excluding others.
From the initial pool of 82 applicants, the JSC greenlit notable individuals such as former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Issack Hassan and lawyer Katwa Kigen.
Also among the shortlisted candidates are Justices Chacha Mwita, Anthony Mrima, and Lady Justice Grace Nzioka.
However, some notable figures failed to make the cut, including former IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati and former IEBC vice chair Lilian Mahiri Zaja. Others who didn’t make it include Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD) chairperson Priscilla Nyokabi and Justice Nixon Sifuna.
The public has been invited to provide any relevant information about the shortlisted candidates by May 13, 2024, at 5:00 pm. This information can be submitted via mobile number 0202739180, email at [email protected], or by visiting the commission’s offices at CBK Pension Towers, 13th floor.
The vacancies for 11 Court of Appeal judges were announced by the JSC on February 2, 2024. These judges are expected to serve until they reach the retirement age of either 65 years (for early retirees) or 70 years as stipulated by law.
