The body of a middle-aged man was discovered in a thicket in the Njomoko area, situated off the Thika superhighway near Witeithie, exhibiting two bullet wounds. Reports from local residents, led by Francis Njuguna, Nyumba Kumi chairman, suggest that the deceased was part of a group on a motorcycle, purportedly fleeing after committing a robbery involving the snatching of a handbag and a phone from a woman in the Witeithie area of Juja.
Eyewitnesses recount that law enforcement officers on patrol pursued and fired shots at the fleeing individuals, resulting in the fatal shooting of the deceased while his accomplices managed to evade capture. Njuguna voiced concerns over the escalating incidents of theft along the bustling superhighway, attributing them to young men who seek refuge in culverts after perpetrating crimes against unsuspecting members of the public. He commended the police for their vigilant efforts and urged other security agencies to collaborate with the community to rid the area of criminal elements.
Thika Sub-county police commander Lawrence Muchangi confirmed the incident, stating that they were alerted by members of the public about the shooting. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered the body of the young man in the thickets. Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased had engaged in the theft of a handbag and a phone from a woman along the busy highway and was shot while attempting to flee the scene of the crime.
